They got their name from the seal of Providence, which is storiedly how the Narraganset Native Americans greeted the city's founder, Roger Williams, in 1636. This solo album is all works by Astor Piazolla and Galliano really runs them down here. The band in these two songs seems to really be enjoying themselves! The DVD ends with some early TV footage, from 1970. They recently left Providence for Pittsburgh, but not before releasing some great albums by Providence-based artists like Larkin Grimm and Urdog. )-----The Bang on a Can All-Stars played selections from Evan Ziporyn's ShadowBang, Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen's Convex-Concave-Concord, and a bit later, Lukas Ligeti's Glamour Girl comedy store. Regardless, I think this work can comfortably join Rzewski's Winnsboro Cotton Mill Blues in that very, very short list of blues-inspired classical works that do not suck. The next batch of performances come from a few years later: 1986, where Gerry Conway has been replaced on drums by Doane Perry (who would go on, with a few breaks, to be Tull's longest-standing drummer).
